Works by Indian modern artists and many masters on offer

The market for Indian art has witnessed some positive developments, resulting into an upswing in the buyers’ interest particularly in the masters. The upbeat mood over the last few months reflects in a heartening response in form of many enquiries from keen collectors both in India and internationally about the art auction courtesy Asta Guru. A news report in TNN (‘Raza, Husain go online.’) provides complete details of the event as follows:
  • Asta Guru, an online auction house set up in 2008 by the chairman of the SAFSET Group, Vickram Sethi, is holding its ninth auction on Tuesday, May 14, and Wednesday, May 15.It consists of 60 exclusive works of art by Indian modern artists and many masters including outstanding paintings by MF Husain, SH Raza, FN Souza, Ram Kumar, Anjolie Ela Menon, Shakti Burman, Krishen Khanna, Akbar Padamsee and Jogen Chowdhury.
  • A few works date all the way back to the 1940s, while some are from the 1950s and the 1960s. There are not only well-known works, but also similar works that can be acquired by upcoming collectors to start their collection. The two most expensive paintings are by MF Husain and SH Raza.   • In order to bid, one can view the terms and condition of the auction house, register online, and request the auction house to activate bidding access. Once the screening process has been completed and the account is activated, the bidder can bid online on the 14th and 15th on the lots they are interested in. The auction shall conclude on May 15 at 7.30pm IST. Closing times for specific lots are mentioned online.
