‘A Gift for Khoj’ fundraiser

Leading contemporary Indian and South Asian artists have donated works for a fundraiser event courtesy New Delhi-based Khoj International Artists Association on November 6 at Gallery Nature Morte.

Khoj, a non-profit art space, was formed fourteen years ago by a group of socially sensitive artist. Since then it has facilitated many cutting edge practices involving the who’s who of the contemporary art world like Subodh Gupta, Manu Parekh, Bharti Kher, Sarnath Banerjee, Anita Dube, Reena Saini Kallat, Gigi Scaria, Manisha Parekh, Sumedh Rajendran, Anjum Singh and others like Vivan Sundaram, Raqs Media Collective, Ram Rahman etc who have willingly donated their works of art to raise funds.

The new space in Khirkee Extension, funded by the proceeds from the new fundraiser, will be utilized to enhance the existing facilities for artists at Khoj Studios. It will have a hostel for them, a new media lab for sound & editing, a library plus an experimental project space theatre.

The event is titled ‘A Gift for Khoj’. Pooja Sood, the director of Khoj International Artists Association, says: “In the last fourteen years, we have invited artists from the South and Euro America so as to interact with artists from India. Over 300 Indian and 400 artists from Brazil, Turkey, South Africa, Cuba, Argentina, Kenya, Uganda, Korea, Mexico, Germany, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, France, Iraq, Palestine, Thailand and Iran have been through KHOJ, allowing for a genuine international understanding of practices within artists in India.”

Now the organizations wants to consolidate its work premises for a larger artist-to-artist contact and hence this fundraiser within Khoj. The artists have in the past generously donated quality works available in lieu of donation at affordable prices. No wonder that the new event is a perfect opportunity for buyers or those looking to launch a collection.

KHOJ has organized several international residencies and numerous talks and exhibits across disciplines such as art, architecture, performance, photography, new media, sound, science and socially engaged practices.
